(CNN) - Today is National Science Fiction Day.

Although it is not really an official holiday, it is the official birthday of prolific science fiction writer Isaac Asimov.

He wrote constantly, penning as many as ten books a year, according to biography.com.

He is most famous for his Foundation Series and for coining the term robotics.

Science fiction geeks most likely know that Asimov conceived the posi-tronic brain.

TV shows Dr. Who and Star Trek: The Next Generation ran with it.
