SARALAND, AL (CNN/RNN) -  An Alabama community wants answers after police officers wrestled a woman to the ground at a Waffle House.

The encounter was captured on video and has caused an uproar from the community.

Chikesia Clemons was forced to floor by three police officers. Her clothes began coming off as police wrestled to turn her over to arrest her.

Clemons asked why police were handling her the way they did.

In a Facebook post, Clemons claimed the ordeal began when Waffle House wanted to charge her 50 cents for plastic cutlery, according to WALA.

Investigators, however, said that is not the case. In a news conference on Monday, police said several witnesses told them Clemons and her friend arrived intoxicated.

Waffle House employees told the two they weren't allowed to bring alcohol into the establishment and they were asked to leave. Surveillance footage shows the police were called not long after the two arrived.

"All statements were in concert that it was based solely on the fact that they were asked to take their beverages out and not consume them on the premises, based on Waffle House's policy. They did not feel it was related to any other circumstance," said Detective Brian Mimms with Saraland police.

Waffle House corporate offices released the following statement about the viral video:

We are still obtaining and reviewing information. However, the information we have received at this point differs significantly from what has reportedly been attributed to Ms. Clemons. After reviewing our security video of the incident and eye witness accounts, police intervention was appropriate. The Saraland Police Department is conducting its own investigation. We take this matter very seriously and think it is important for all those involved or interested in the matter to exercise caution until the facts are developed.

Clemons' mother, Chiquitta Clemons-Howard, is outraged

"What I want actually is to get justice for my daughter in this case. I don't feel that she was treated fairly. I think the things that were showed were very impulsive not only to me as a woman but to my child," Clemons-Howard explained.

The video shows officers choking Clemons and then one officer pulls out a stun gun.

"Then they had her on the dirty floor with a gun to her head. That's not how you treat our children. Injustice to one is injustice to all. We have to stop spending our money where they don't want our business at," said Shemeca Crawford, one of Clemons’ friends.

Sunday afternoon, protesters went inside the Waffle House to get answers as to why things went down the way it did. But when police arrived, that protest took a turn.

Police detained and arrested one person, which added more fuel to the fire from the community.

"I'm angry, yes, because it keeps happening," said one woman at the protest.

"I'm just black. I'm not a threat,” a male protester added. “I'm black. I'm not a threat."

After the brawl at Waffle House, Mobile NAACP President David Smith called for calmer heads to prevail until he gets answers about the investigation.

"Let's find out why it happened the way it happened. The parents have confidence in us. Some of these other folks just want to cause a problem, right? I want a solution,"
