(RNN)- Florida State University opened its garages to the Tallahassee public to protect their cars from Hurricane Irma. But Friday a local car dealership took that space away when it moved its entire inventory into the garages.
After students expressed outrage online, Napleton Infiniti issued a statement Monday afternoon attributing the incident to faulty communications, stating the dealership was "...advised that it could park its cars in the FSU lots and genuinely believed it was allowed to do so. Unbeknownst to us, the FSU official who conveyed this information had no actual authority to speak on FSU's behalf."
The dealership thanked the university for alerting it to the problem and pledged to fix it as soon as possible.
The apology came a wave of anger on social media.
According to FSU.com.
Hey @floridastate, I pay tuition here. If my car sustains damage, do I get a new infiniti? @FSUAlert@FSUParking

Students and Tallahassee residents took to social media to express their anger over Napleton Infiniti moving their new cars into a parking garage.
The car dealership responded to one poster saying they had permission.
However, another screen grab posted on Reddit shows the Florida State University Police asked the cars be removed.
Napleton Infiniti had to remove the review section from Facebook after negative reviews, but that didn’t stop others from posting in the comments under other posts.
Sunday evening, The Florida State University official Twitter account addressed the issue, and the cars were removed.
We has addressed the matter. The vehicles have been removed.
