HOOVER, AL (WAFB) -

Alabama senior Reggie Ragland is expected to be one of the nation's best linebackers this season and while talking to reporters at SEC Media Days, he mentioned the physicality of LSU running back Leonard Fournette.

He was a semifinalist for the Butkus Award last year and made 95 tackles for the Crimson Tide. Despite losing to Ohio State 42-35 in national playoff semifinal, Alabama still won the SEC Championship and finished 12-2 overall.

One of those victories was a 20-13 overtime triumph against LSU in Baton Rouge.

"Leonard Fournette is a beast," Ragland said. "He's a big guy. He runs the ball very hard. If you don't come downhill with the right hat speed and hit him, he'll run you over. The whole offense is very physical and tough."

Fournette rushed for 79 yards on 21 carries last season against Alabama, but as was often the case, LSU's weak passing attack cost the Tiger badly.

Quarterback Anthony Jennigs was just eight of 26 passing for 76 yards, with a touchdown pass and an interception. Jennings averaged less than three yards per attempt in the contest.

Ragland added he stays in contact with LSU senior offensive lineman Vadal Alexander and likewise praised his physical style of play.

LSU went back to work this week in preparation for the Citrus Bowl against Notre Dame. A win would be nice, but this is also a chance to get some freshman playing time to get ready for 2018. Well it'll come in practice only. "Those guys will get more reps. So I'll give them a couple of more reps at the end of a team period. It's sending the wrong message to our football team.
