Auburn, Florida highlight day one of SEC Football Media Days

HOOVER, AL (WAFB) -

The madness begins here Monday. Somewhere between 1,100-1,200 people have been credentialed for the SEC Football Media Days, as excitement for the 2015 season continues to build.

LSU opponents Auburn and Florida will step into the spotlight, while the Vanderbilt Commodores are also set to attend. Auburn visits Tiger Stadium September 19 for LSU's SEC home opener and "Gold Game". That contest has already been selected for television by CBS and is set for a 2:30 pm kickoff on WAFB-TV.

LSU owes Auburn payback from last season, as head coach Les Miles and his squad were embarrassed 41-7 at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Despite whipping LSU to start their year 5-0, Auburn sputtered down the stretch and finished just 8-5. The Auburn Tigers will be represented in Hoover by head coach Gus Malzahn, along with junior quarterback Jeremy Johnson, senior defensive back Jonathan Jones and senior linebacker Kris Frost.

The Florida Gators have a new head coach in Jim McElwain, as Will Muschamp was fired after four rollercoaster seasons in Gainesville. Muschamp is now the new defensive coordinator at Auburn, while McElwain arrives at Florida after a successful stint as Alabama's offensive coordinator and then impressive three-year stay as Colorado State's head coach.

The Gators visit LSU on October 17, after the Tigers won a wild and crazy 30-27 affair last year in "The Swamp". McElwain will step to podium and bring with him senior defensive end Jonathan Bullard, sophomore wide receiver Brandon Powell and outstanding junior defensive back Vernon Hargreaves III.

LSU doesn't arrive in Hoover until Thursday. The Tigers will be represented by Coach Miles, sophomore running back Leonard Fournette, junior linebacker Kendell Beckwith and senior offensive lineman Vadal Alexander.

Watch WAFB-TV throughout the day for reports and follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest from the SEC Football Media Days.

LSU went back to work this week in preparation for the Citrus Bowl against Notre Dame. A win would be nice, but this is also a chance to get some freshman playing time to get ready for 2018. Well it'll come in practice only. "Those guys will get more reps. So I'll give them a couple of more reps at the end of a team period. It's sending the wrong message to our football team. It's all focus on winning the game. Exactly what we did last year," said LSU Head Coach Ed Org...More >>
